There is a kind of quiet you can only find deep in the wilderness—
where the water is still, the air is clean, and the noise of everyday life
begins to fall away.

You’re invited into four days of immersion in the pristine beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness—a place of endless lakes, ancient forests, and untouched landscapes that awaken something both grounding and expansive within you.

This retreat is designed to be deeply nourishing and completely supported. All of your meals will be thoughtfully prepared and cooked for you, using wholesome, energizing ingredients to sustain you throughout your time in nature. All gear is provided—so you can arrive with ease, knowing everything has been taken care of.

Each morning begins with gentle breathwork and mindful movement, allowing you to wake up with the rhythm of the land and settle into your body before the day unfolds. Throughout the retreat, you’ll be guided through a Foraging & Plant Identification workshop, learning to recognize and connect with the living intelligence of the plants around you.

We’ll spend our days exploring—canoeing through glassy waters, taking day trips to stunning hikes, hidden waterfalls, and peaceful fishing spots. The land here is alive with wildlife, and it’s not uncommon to witness loons calling across the lake, eagles overhead, or deer moving quietly through the trees.

And just as important as what we do is the space we leave for what naturally arises. There will be plenty of unstructured time for solitude, reflection, journaling, swimming, or simply sitting in stillness—allowing the wilderness to meet you in its own way.

This is an invitation to unplug, to reconnect, and to remember what it feels like to be fully present.

What To Bring

_ (11).gif

How will water be handled?
All drinking water will be filtered directly from the lake using a gravity filtration system. We will also have iodine tablets on hand as a backup, so you can feel confident that clean, safe water is always available.

What safety measures are in place?
Your safety is a top priority. We will have a Garmin InReach satellite device for emergency communication, along with bear spray and a fully stocked first aid kit. Shaker is wilderness first aid certified! Both our guides are experienced in wilderness settings and prepared to handle unexpected situations with care and calm.

What are the sleeping arrangements?
Participants will be paired with one other person per tent. If you prefer more solitude, you are absolutely welcome to bring your own solo tent—just let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly. We can provide a tent for you or you are welcome to bring your own, we will communicated once you've reserved your spot.

How does canoeing work?
We will be traveling in pairs, with two people per canoe. Each participant will be provided with a paddle and a life vest. No prior canoeing experience is required—this is something we will guide and support you through.

How is food stored?
All food will be stored in a sealed food barrel and safely stashed away from camp, downwind, in alignment with wilderness safety practices. This helps protect both our group and the surrounding wildlife.

What should I know about packing?
We strongly recommend bringing waterproof or water-resistant bags for your clothing and sleeping gear, as conditions can be unpredictable. Keeping your belongings dry will greatly enhance your comfort throughout the trip.

What if I’m missing gear?
We’ve got you. If there’s something on the packing list you don’t have, please reach out—we’re happy to help source or lend gear when possible so you feel fully prepared. We'll do a gear check the in Ely the day before we leave for the wilderness and make sure everyone is properly outfitted.

What is the cancellation policy?
A $500 deposit is required to secure your spot and is non-refundable. If you are no longer able to attend, your spot may be transferred to another participant as long as we receive at least 30 days’ notice (by May 4th, 2026). We understand that life happens and will do our best to support smooth transitions when needed.

You don’t have to do this alone anymore.

If you feel the pull, trust it.

This space was created for you.

FAQ's & Helpful Nuggets

Daily Itinerary

Night 1 - Welcome night at the lodge/bunkhouse/cabin

  • Introspective Dinner

  • Fire Circle with Intention-Setting

  • Arrival & warm welcome from trip leaders. We will settle in at Boundary Waters Outfitters in Ely with an orientation meet-and-greet, which will include instructions from our guides about what to expect while making our way by canoe through the north country.

  • We will practice our first meditative exercise with a 'quiet' dinner; this will open our senses to the food we eat and sounds we heard, setting the stage for introspection that will continue throughout the trip. We will break the silence after dinner with a campfire and intention-setting exercise and identify the "why" behind the reasons we're all here.

Day 1 - First day in the BWCA

  • Early start with a morning meditation and breathwork activity. After breakfast, we will head out to the Boundary Waters entry point.

  • Throughout the day, we will be intentional to include periodic pauses to take in the environment and begin to identify sensory patterns for the continued quieting of our experience.

  • We'll also periodically pause to observe the natural soundscape around us. Not focusing on specific sounds, but the combination of them that makes this place unique.

  • We will complete our paddle and portage and set up camp for the evening. Dinner will be served by our guides, and there will be a night-time meditation that continues to re-attune our bodies to the natural circadian rhythms of nature.

Days 2-3 - Settling into new, yet familiar and ancient rhythms

  • We begin each day with a morning meditation, breathwork, and awareness-building of how our senses are reacting to the quiet nature around us paired with mindful movement.

  • Activity and distance covered will vary by the route we take, however some may include a day full of paddle and portage to the next campsite, while others we spend a day near camp with off-shoot hiking experiences, waterfalls, etc.

  • Days are long this far north, and so we'll have time each day at camp for unguided self exploration as well. This is a good opportunity to do a journaling practice, go on a short hike around the property, read, absorb the sounds of nature, etc.

  • Our evenings at camp will include guided mindful forest bathing hikes, plant identification workshops and journaling prompts.

Day 4 - Paddle out

  • The sun has set on our time together...

  • This is our last day. Knowing that we'll be re-entering the noisy world from which we came, there will be one last dive into ourselves to achieve inner peace through a yoga practice meant to reacquaint ourselves...with ourselves. Afterward, we will do our final paddle and portage to the entry point, where Boundary Waters Outfitters will be there to pick us up.

  • We will also share information with you on how to stay in touch with the group and keep up the practices that we worked on during the trip. You will also receive your next set of Journal pages to continue your journaling practice.

  • And with that... we say our goodbyes.

Please note: This schedule is a gentle guide and may shift to best support the group’s experience and the natural flow of the retreat.

"I recently completed a 4 day canoe trip into the BWCA guided by Shaker. I was thoroughly impressed with the how well Shaker can lead a wilderness trip so that it can be fun, safe, and educational! He has extensive wilderness experience, and is always happy to share his skills in an unobtrusive way. Shaker is relaxed but always very responsible, has a great sense of humor, and always upbeat. If you like a good discussion, he's always reading something interesting!"

"A truly life-changing experience. This retreat offered the perfect balance of solitude, nature, and fellowship — no phones, no distractions, just peace and connection. The wilderness was breathtaking, and the silence deeply restorative. I left feeling grounded, grateful, and reconnected to what really matters. The guides were exceptional — knowledgeable, patient, and deeply respectful of the land and its rhythms.
